Massone is a constructive technique which includes raw earth and fibres. The mixing procedure often needs the engagement of communities to build rural natural homes. However it’s the gesture of making Massone which makes the space so special. The hands work the earth as to make irregular shapes, which could resemble loaves. This is the reason why the earthen material has to be workable, in a plastic state, so the hands can easily mix it, allowing the senses to be engaged in the constructive process.
The earth has a peculiar fragrance, given by the contact between water and straw. The process of making bread is similar, it needs hands, a soft dough and water. Imagining a parallelism between the pane di terra (earthen loaf) and the bread, it is possible to say that the rhythmic movement of the hands of people involved in the making process creates a unique collaborative space, where anyone can give his own contribution. Earthen technical processes are able to connect communities, and clay, the binding agent truly embraces materials and people.

Il Massone è una tecnica costruttiva che include l’uso di terra cruda e le fibre. La procedura spesso necessita il coinvolgimento delle comunità per la realizzazione di case naturali in ambiente rurale. Tuttavia, è il gesto del ‘fare’ il Massone che rende lo spazio così speciale. Questa è la ragione per cui il materiale terra deve essere lavorato allo stato plastico così che le mani possano facilmente mescolarlo, permettendo ai sensi di essere totalmente coinvolti nel processo costruttivo.
La terra ha un profumo particolare, che si sprigiona dal contatto tra l’acqua e la paglia. Il processo del ‘fare’ il pane è simile, necessita di mani, un impasto soffice e acqua. Immaginando un parallelismo tra i pani di terra e il pane che si mangia, è possibile dire che il movimento ritmico delle mani delle persone coinvolte nel ‘fare’ crea un unico spazio di unione, dove ognuno può dare il suo contributo personale. Le tecniche costruttive in terra sono capaci di legare le comunità, e l’argilla, l’agente legante, abbraccia davvero i materiali e le persone.
