An 'ometto' is a small construction which you can typically find in the mountains. It is made by stones, that have been piled on each other, to create what looks like a tower or a pyramid. Its purpose is to indicate which way the path continues, when no other sign is present. In fact, if you are not sure which way the path continues, just follow an 'ometto', a 'little man', and it will show you the right way! These constructions, which size varies between about 30cm and 1m, are a great example of collaboration among mountain-lovers. It is always a good idea to contribute to their creation, by adding an extra stone on top of the 'ometti' you find on the way.
